The Msq100 is the successor of the JSQ-60 (eg. Roland Jupiter8) leaving the old DCB comunication port, for more standard Midi.
The sequencer is pretty little with a bit difficult to read LCD display and magnetic feet to be attached to metal chassic (when synth were made out of metal, not plastic...ok boomer). Just before pressing RUN, the clock can se set to internal frequency (33 to 254 beats ) or tempo slaved to Midi clock or DIN SYNC 24 (eg. Roland TR808). Main interface is pretty simple with elementary function such as Play, Stop, Load and Reset: basically the machine records note IN (up to 6100) but you can optionally record other midi events like Velocity or bending, but this reduces the memory.
Measure can be set only to 4/4 or 3/4, relative metrone to sound on either a crotchet or quave. Recording in step time selecting the shortest timing value and using multiples of this base value interspersed with rests, tied notes, and measure ends to complete your piece. It is possible to change values without stoping the recording- the options available being quavers, triplet quavers, semiquavers, 1/16th quints, 1/16th sixths and 1/32 notes. You can loop the sequence and then apply traditional edit functions like Copy, Erase, Insert Delete, or simply OVERDUB (with variable Midi Channel assign). Final works can be saved to TAPE function (with VERIFY FUNCTION) or of course saved to a simple wav file attatched to you computer.
