STEIM Cracklebox
(also known as Kraakdoos)
Experimental dutch noise box using contact points, original project is from 70' by Michel Waisvisz. The basic idea is to play circuits with body contact.
DIY the project is mainly a DIY so the weight, deisgn number of contacts depend mainly of what you wann do. Usually the models are hand-held and smaller than this special actual model that *might* be called "Grand Old Crackle Synthesizer".
POWER Since the purpose is to touch the circuit (a kind of ancestor of bending?) the units are generally battery-powered to avoid any tension shocks.
VOICE mainly based on a old school monolithic operational amplifier LM709 (today not so easy to find around) and relative connections are left open and accessible for the fingers.
Schematics are around the net but we do not have permission for this, but you can still buy some kits from the CRACKLE website.
NOISE this special huge crackle box counts not less than 19 contact point plus pots and special buttons.
