Roland SH-09 (1979)

Compact monophonic machine based on a single VCO oscillator- a stripped-down version from the bigger brother Sh-2.

KEYBOARD 32 keys. The main panel features 3 rotary potentiometers, 6 switch tabs and 19 sliders, on the left part a joystick for modulation and pitchbending functions.

- audio input to process external line sources

 

VOICE single VCO oscillator based on integrated chip BA662A - SH-09 structure is pretty simple: 1 VCO + 1 SUB oscillator at 3 octaves heights. The main VCO can be set at 32' 16' 8' 4' 2' and features 4 waveforms:
- noise
- sawtooth
- square.
- pulse with variable width, also assignable to modulator LFO or EG.

ENVELOPE a single bipolar 4-stages EG for:
- VCA amplitude
- VCF cutoff.
Special "hold" mode indefinitely maintains note and "trigger" mode follows the keyboard gate pressure.

 

FILTER powerful resonant 24 dB/octave lowpass, cutoff range from 10Hz to 20kH.
VCF can be used also as EG follower using external signal sources.

LFO single delayed modulator (freq range from 0.2 to 25 Hz) features 3 shapes ( sinewave, square and random) and 3 destinations:
- VCO pitch
- PWM pulse
- VCF cutoff.

 

PERFORMANCE some functions for performance play:
- joystick can be assigned to both VCO pitch and VCF cutoff with adjustable amount
- special portamento play with variable time.

ROLAND SH classic family

	SH-1000 (1973) first of the series, mainly with presets and some parameters. VIDEO
	SH-2000 (1973) stripped-down version of Sh1000 VIDEO
	SH-3 (1974) presets are finally abbandoned. Soon replaced by SH3A but not for some stranges idea of filter design infrigment. VIDEO
	SH-5 (1976) dual oscillator structure with ring modulator and many functions VIDEO
	SH-7 (1978) biggest of the series, hard to find VIDEO
	SH-1 (1978) simple 7/5 version with 1 VCO + sub. Later the idea generated the more famous SH101 VIDEO
	SH-2 (1979) double VCO VIDEO
	SH-101 (1980) new design, new look. 1 VCO + sub VIDEO
