Casio HT-700 (1988)

Part of the HT Casio series based on digital SD - spectrum Dynamic Synthesis- with parpaphonic analog filter.

Also rebranded as Hohner Ks49 with wihite case and alternative sound set.

KEYBOARD 49 minikeys. Main panel features an LCD display, 42 buttons, 4 sliders and a data wheel. On the left side a simple pitch bender wheel - 5 semitones range.

Power supply external PSU 9V DC negative center polarity or batteries.

 

 

TECH main CPU D78C10 manages 8 voices polyphony based on SD spectrum Dynamic Synthesis + a drum section based on PCM samples.

The 8 DCO voices are shared into 2 parts: - 4 for main part, out of 31 waves - 4 for accompaniment part (wave choice reduced to 16 waveforms).

WAVES according to TableHooters, the waves are generated by a combination of 2 multipulses PCM waves. These combinated waves generate a total of 31 cycled waves with altered harmonic contents and new overtones.

DRUM WAVETABLE the ROM also contains more commons PCM samples waveforms (x15) at low resolution: kick, snare, rimshot, hihat (x2), handclap, tom (x2), timbale (x2), bongo (x2) and agogo (x2).

INTERFACE the HT700 interface is quite simple, but lacks many real-time tweaks:

assign the jogwheel to filter cutoff for real-time action.

FILTER paraphonic analog lowpass filter with resonance (no self-oscillation) based on NJM2069 same found on synthesizer Korg Poly 800 and sampler DSS1.

LFO a single delayed modulator (shapes: saw up, saw down, triangle, square and random ) with fixed DCO pitch destination but at least variable depth amount.

NOTE: maximum frequency is pretty slow, not to mention a lack of LFO to VCF.

ENVELOPE 2 EGs:

- EG1 amplitude: 4-stages ADSR - EG2 filter: 4-stages ADSR.

SEQUENCER internal arranger with various functions like chords definition, pitch transposition, auto-accompaniment and tempo change. Each parts is assigned to a single Midi channel and transmits the relative sequence

The internal ROM contains 20 cheesy style presets: rock (x2), beat (x4), disco (x2), pops (x2), swing, slow rock, samba, bossanova, waltz, march, beguine, salsa, reggae, and kraftwerk-style electro pop.

SYNC Sequences, rhythms and accompaniment can be slaved to external Midi clock.

EFFECT chorus with 3 fixed presets values. Some boards reported BBD Panasonic+ MN3207.

MEMORY:

- 20 ROM sound - 20 styles. - 100 RAM patches. Expansion CASIO RA-100 card doubles the memory (we're now out of stock!)

 

MIDI basic implementation features only pitch bender control and sustain CC#.
Absolutely NO Exclusive system for edit.

TIP: Send and receive Midi channel can be set to 1-13 (Chord = send and receive +1, Bass = send and receive +2, Rhythm = send and receive +3)
