Digital Delay (1984)

 

Rackmount digital delay at drity lo-fi 12 bits resolution with internal modulation LFO.

RACKMOUNT 1 rack height unit.
Main panel features 8 knobs for real time edit, 4 switch tabs and a LED peak meter range from -40 to +6 values.

Back panel terminal connectors:
- signal input
- direct + mixed out
- inverted (phase) mixed out
- trigger input
- footswitch input hold
- footswitch input bypass
- footswitch input tempo tap.
Font panel terminal connectors:
- input with priority + output with priority.

TECH main controller is a custom RDD63H101 (at IC17) handles a companded 12 bits sampling system with 64kb RAM.

DELAY MODES: the delay is generated according to 2 possible sound digitalizing modes alternated pushing the MODE function:
- DELAY MODE 1 (X1) : delay time range from 1,25 s to 640 ms at maximum rate (about 10 kHz).
- DELAY MODE 2 (X2) : double time available as mode 1 but half quality sampling (about 4,5 kHz).

PARAMETERS solid knobs for sound control, with different colors for macro section.

 

- TIME RANGE rotary selector sets the delay time according to 9 fixed values: 2,5 / 5 / 10 / 40 / 80 / 160 / 320 / 640 ms. - TIME FINE set the fine time delay. - MODULATION FREQUENCY sets the modulator LFO speed - MODULATION DEPTH determinesthe LFO AMOUNT (on delayed pitch) - FEEDBACK LEVEL: determines the amount of repetitions. - DIRECT : sets the amount of incoming dry signal (balancing) - DELAY : sets the amount of wet (delayed) signal.

FREEZE SAMPLE delayed sound can be "frozen" by pushing the HOLD button resulting in a kind of infinite repeats or loops. Special sampling mode records a short 640 ms sample triggerable by an external signal such as a drum machine (check out "sync").

MODULATION a single triangle modulator routed to pitch modulation with variable depth amount.

 

 

SYNC delay time can be set with external external analog signal signal into the TRIG IN connector "Rhythm synchronization" works very nice with vintage drum machines generating 5V trigger pulses like Roland TR-808.
