Boss DR-110
Dr. Rhythm Graphic (1983)

The second model from the budget Boss series Dr. Rhythm analog machine, mainly famous for the previous model Boss DR-55.

The DR sound reminds closely the Roland TR-606 a bit metallic and compressed but pretty good.

DRUM MACHINE The main panel features a liquid crystal display, 4 knobs, 13 rubber buttons, 6 trigger pads (no velocity).

Terminal connectors:
- mono out
- headphones
- trigger out (+6V 10 ms).

Power supply is external PSU 9V negative in center or 4 X 1.5V batteries .

 

VOICE the internal CPU HD44790A-44 (HITACHI 4-Bit CMOS Microcomputer) manages up to 6 analog sound. Not much to edit, few knobs for sound tweaking but a volume balancing between:
A- kick / snare / clap
B- cymbal / HH.

SEQUENCER both 12 / 16 steps and 3/4 or 4/4 time signature, dots-triplets and ACCENT function that emphasises level (amplitude + filter) on a particular step.
Boss Dr-110 handles 2 notes recording modes (no metronome):
- step by step: use the grid mode and select the instruments.
- realtime: just use the TAP button to record.
SYNC the tempo can be set internally in a range from 45 to 300 BMP but it cannot be slaved to any other devices. The TRIG OUT can be used to drive synthesizer arpeggiator (eg. Roland Juno-60).

MEMORY:
- 16 RAM patterns
- 16 ROM presets
- 2 Songs up to 128 measures each.
RAM is non-volatile if batteries are fitted.

 

 

MOD there are dozens of moddings that have been created in the last 20 years:
it includes basic sync interface, DR110 Midi triggering and monstrous boxes controls with hundreds of pots.
