The TX is a big frame expander which holds up to 8 individual TF1 modules and each TF1 module is a compact version of a complete Yamaha DX7 engine.
Overview
(weight: 10 kg fully loaded): 4 units.
Front panel description:
- TX main frame features 2 buttons for overall Midi control and general Midi I/O
- TF1 module features a 7-segments display and 3 buttons.
Configuration
The TF1 based on Ym2128 -2129 IC. Depending on the models and numbers of installed TF1:
- TX816 contains 8 modules (128 voices)
- TX416 contains 4 modules (64 voices)
- TX216 contains 2 modules (32 voices)
- TX116 contains 1 module (16 voices)
FM synthesis
a TF1 module is identical to Dx7 synthesis offering same 16 voices and 6 digital sinewave operators (either a carrier or a modulator) that can be chained in 32 different combinations algorithms. Sinewave operators organized as algorithms, assigned as carrier or modulator, linked between them on different pathways interacting on their harmonic contents depending on the variable feedback strength.
- carrier: defines the amplitude and the spectral frequency
- modulator: sets the sound timbre and the relative harmonic contents.
Performance
full loaded TX816 is like having 8 indipendent DX7, unfortunately there are no general performance functions controls except the for the common Midi, but It is possible to manually program the TF:
- mix volumes
- panning
- detune
- zone split or assignment
LFO TF1
- PMD pitch
- AMD amplitude
Envelope TF1
- 1 EG pitch: 4-segments structure + 4 time levels.
-
1 EG for each operators: 4-segments structure + 4 time levels
Memory
- 32 patches for each TF1

Review
OK: sound / power / quality built
NOT : needs external programming / no global performance
"Raw and subtil: can even blast every FM machines from this era including expensive Dx1. Tx816 needs to be programmed."
