ALESIS METAVOX

Alesis metavox

Trend price : 70€

DJ-oriented vocoder from digital series MODFX effect boxes.

Overview
main panel features 4 knobs and 5 buttons.
Back panel terminal connectors:
- unbalanced stereo jack input
- unbalanced stereo jack output
- pedalswitch input for bypass

Voice
the internal DSP works at 48 kHz - 28 bits resolution. The machine is quite easy to use: just plug a microphone to LEFT input, set the pitch using the Phreeq knob and finally choose of the 4 internal waveform available: saw, square, noise and rectified saw.

Carrier
it is also possible to use a custom carrier and enable polyphonic signal: just plug a synth to the RIGHT INPUT and begin the robotic stuff.

Filter
the siblance balancing cuts off frequencies for more / less sibilance on vocoded voice.

LFO
the signal can me modulated on 4 different ways:
- LFO: single triangle
- random: 2 different modes
- EG: envelope follower
- random pattern-sequence: 16 preset steps (cannot be altered)

Sync
LFO frequency rate cannot synched to any external clock but the TAP button can help for live performance, in addition there are 4 different RATE frequency dividers: half, quarter, double, 4 x times.

Review
OK: carrier / cheap / intuitive
NOT : limited / no Midi / external PSU
"Very easy to use and can make robotic sounds at snap! However it seems to be like more dj-oriented with limited options. Basic but fun."

cool
